Olympia High School - All You Need To Know About The Silver Medal School In Windermere Florida

You're in luck because we have written about the two best Elementary and Middle schools in the Windermere area just for you! Now it's time for us to share with you the best High School in the Windermere area, Olympia High School. In addition to being a Silver Medal school, Olympia is also a College Success Award winner. If your child is bound for college, Olympia High will prepare them for college and career readiness. 

The school's mission is "To provide an educational experience that extends to students, faculty, administrators and staff. All members of our school are engaged as life-long learners to improve skills and knowledge in an atmosphere of trust, focused on effort and results."

The school's graduation rate is 96%, 14% higher than the stage average, AP course participation is 42%, 20% higher than the stage average, and the average SAT score is an impressive 1499. The school's test scores are above average in all subjects except for Algebra. Parents and students both have stellar things to say about Olympia. "I found the school to be very academically challenging and prepared my boys for college," one parent said.

Olympia High School offers a wide range of courses that your child can take depending on their advancement in subjects. English courses offered are English 1-4, English 4: College Prep, AP English Language, and AP English Literature. Math courses are Algebra 1-2, Geometry, Math for College Readiness, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics. Science classes include Earth Space Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Marine Science, Physics, AP Environmental, and AP Biology. Social Studies is the last main course and it's selection includes World History, US History, US Government, Law Studies, Economics  w/ Financial Literacy, Psychology 1-2, AP Psychology, AP Human Geography, and AP US History. In addition to the core courses, there are many electives for your child to explore. Parenting Skills, Personal Fitness, Driver's Education, Forensic Science, Theatre, Intensive Reading, Fitness Lifestyle Design, and more electives are offered. Spanish 1-2, Spanish for Spanish Speakers 1, and French 1-2 are the language classes offered. 

DREAM is the program that prepares students grades 9-12 to enter a four-year college or university. The DREAM Academy (Determined to Reach Every Accomplishment with Motivation) is designed to accelerate student learning in preparation for success in college and life through academics, community service, and extra-curricular activities. This elective course will focus on teaching students strategies for success in the classroom, and in life. In order to produce more well-rounded students, all DREAM students will be required to take academically rigorous courses, such as Advanced Placement, maintain a minimum GPA of a 3.0, and participate in community service every quarter as well as a sport, a club, or the performing arts.

The school offers Dual Enrollment Courses at Valencia College for Juniors and Seniors as well as Orange Technical College. In order to qualify, the student must have a 3.0 un-weighted cumulative GPA on all High School coursework and score the minimum required score on either the ACT, SAT, or PERT. The Advanced Placement Experience Scholars Academy (APEX) offers a rigorous, comprehensive four-year curriculum to a select group of academically talented students. Required APEX courses are designed to help students reach their academic goals, to facilitate interdisciplinary learning, and to encourage a cohort approach. 

The Talented Twenty Program is part of the Governor’s Equity in Education Plan. At Olympia, students eligible for the Talented Twenty Program are guaranteed admission to one of the twelve state universities, and are given priority for award of funds from the Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG). Talented Twenty students must meet FSAG eligibility requirements in order to qualify for priority funding. This is a huge advantage to jump-start your child's future education. 

Athletics are a very important aspect of Olympia High and student life. Sports offered include Basketball, Wrestling, Powerlifting, Cross Country, Track, Lacrosse, Volleyball, Golf, Soccer, Bowling, Tennis, Baseball, Softball, Football, Water Polo, and other sports. Sports are seasonal and most of the same sports are offered to boys and girls. Similar to most high schools, there are many clubs your teenager can join to make new friends and spend time with like-minded peers. These clubs include Anime Club, Chess Club, Dance, Fashion Club, Gay Straight Alliance, Multicultural Club, Theater Club, and more.
