About Doctor Phillips:
Dr. Phillips, Florida is named after Dr. Philip Phillips, a prominent businessman and philanthropist. He was mostly active in the Central Florida area, and earned a medical degree from Columbia University. A citrus magnate, at one point he owned more than 5,000 acres of citrus groves, which made him one of the biggest citrus producers in the world at one point before he sold his industry assets in 1953. Dr. Phillips left behind two Dr. Phillips Charities, The Dr. P. Phillips Foundation and Dr. Phillips Inc. These two charities offer support to programs and projects in the community. Some of the local places named after him include Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Dr. Phillips YMCA, and Dr. Phillips High School.
